Jumping out the Window

I AM JUMPING OUT THE WINDOW!!!! Why?....
1st Tis the season for exams and papers and I have one more final left. However I will be spending 99% of my holiday break studying and working on paper. Tis the season and the life of a graduate student.

I AM JUMPING OUT THE WINDOW...Tiger Woods, thank you Media for now making the world's greatest golfer stop playing golf. Yeah I know he cheated (No excuses) but that doesnt mean we are entitled to know about to every time he or his family move to the left or the right. I mean would you want the whole world knowing your business? I am a fan of Tiger Woods as he is the greatest golfer in the world. And he is what brought the sport into the 21st Century. Without Tiger the game of golf would never have made it as mainstream as it is today. So while Tiger is losing endorsements, he can get those back and he can get more but for him to do that...HE HAS TO PLAY THE GAME! And for everyone who is hating Tiger now, he did wrong, he asked for forgiveness and it is really our place to judge him?

I AM JUMPING OUT THE WINDOW....My oldest niece having a boyfriend and I find out over Facebook. Now true she is almost 16 and she is more like my little sister than a niece but still...so of course I call the house but her mom answered so I had blew up my niece's spot

However the one bright spot was seeing the Princess and Frog. Disney did a good job putting the movie together with a great voice cast. The plot was solid, and the music was good. Overall the most pleasing thing of the movie was how they showed New Orleans back in the day and highlighted the influence of Jazz music and captured the culture of New Orleans.

On a side note, I apologize for the delay in postings, had some technical issues with the internet connection and had to finish up the semester. Enjoy your holiday season. Another posting will coming very soon!

Cheaters

As I am sure you all know, one of the world's greatest golfers (and one of my golf idols) has recently fell from media grace to media hell. Yes friends, Tiger Woods now joins the ranks of former presidents, athletes, governors, senators, as one of the many who have cheated on their spouse. Yes its sad but true...however, lets keep this in perspective, how many men and WOMEN (yes women do cheat) have done this before? Honestly, is cheating on your spouse breaking news? Not that I am condoning cheating (I don't), but people do make mistakes and do the wrong the thing. But every time something like this happens, the news and media act like it has never happened before. Then the media proceeds to flood us and damn near shoves this story down our throats. Hell, I am watching only Discovery and History Channels so that I can avoid this "monumental news" (sarcasm). I truly do feel sorry for Tiger and his family. While most of the world can handle their infidelities privately and work things out with their spouses behind close doors; while those that are famous have a media parade dancing around them watching their every movement. I don't know where exactly we the public and the media thought it was acceptable to know every personal detail of the Woods family and how they handle this issue. But it is really none of our business that includes you too Wendy Williams and Perez Hilton. And not only for Tiger Woods, but the other famous people out there, they deserve to have their privacy respected. How would you feel if you were in their position? But I digress....

CHEATERS....wrong right? Well to put it simply yes it is wrong. But lets see, why did Tiger cheat exactly? Was there something else that occurred in his marriage? Who knows? But yeah Bad Tiger, you shouldn't have cheated. But before women start championing poor Elin as a victim; let us remember that women do cheat as well. So before we go on a men hating tirade, women do cheat, maybe they don't get caught as often, but they cheat too. At the end of the day, cheating is wrong, and there may be a reason that it happened, maybe she wasn't caring for him or taking care of his needs? Or maybe Tiger is just a selfish jerk and wanted to bang a hot cocktail waitress or something? I don't know. But then again I don't care. I just hope Tiger can put this behind him and get back to being the greatest golfer in the world and setting more records for the next generation of golfers to compete for....

Thankful...

Today is the day where we sit down around the table and enjoy a large meal with friends and family. We watch the parade on TV in the morning, cook all day, watch football in the evening and then early to bed and early to rise to do battle for Black Friday door busting sales!...I want to take a pause from the holiday madness to sit back and reflect about the meaning of this year and what I am thankful for. In 2009, I am thankful for a plethora (means alot) of people and things. First and foremost, this year has blessed me so much. I have to give all thanks and honor to my Heavenly Father for all that He has done for me. I do not deserve all the blessings, Grace and Mercy he has shown me. I am thankful for wonderful lady in my life, my future wife, Lisa. I am thankful for my family who have supported me in my endeavors and believe in me and my dreams to become a great physician. I am thankful for my friends, new and old, all of whom have been the greatest treasures of my life. I am thankful for my friends at school and thankful to be in school and have money in a recession! So to everyone...what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Medical Myths and Misinformation

In the afternoons I usually listen to Michael Baisden Radio show, he discusses multiple topics both comical and controversial. But one show in particular caught my attention, he was talking about the H1N1 vaccine. And to sum up his point of view, he is against the vaccine. And I can understand his concern as a parent wondering what are the side effects. But there are alot of myths and incorrect information flying around. For instance, the hype surrounding the H1N1 flu virus is really blown way out of proportion. Yes its the flu and should be taken seriously especially with those who have compromised immune systems, infants and the elderly. BUT, it is still just the flu, and a viral strain of the flu that has not been seen for sometime, if you really want to be scared of the flu google: 1918 Spanish Flu. There is also the widely used belief that the flu vaccine itself will make you sick. That too is untrue. The vaccine is basically, a dead virus that is placed into your body so that your immune system will see this virus attack it and create a memory of it. Thus, when you encounter the REAL virus, your immune system will have antibodies already in place and quickly shut down the virus before it can even start.

The other myth I want to touch on quickly before I depart is that "Public Option" is a bad idea. Now like most tax paying Americans, the thought of MORE MONEY going out of our pockets disagrees with me as well. However, I much rather have my money going towards something humane, such as taking care of the sick, than some wall street executives who are trying to cover their own asses. The Obama Healthcare proposal is a good idea and honestly the best idea that has been presented. Did you know that, 137,000 people DIED from 2000 through 2006 because they lacked health insurance(factcheck.org)? That is not even counting the number of uninsured people hospitalized or that sought out medical treatment in that time frame. Im just saying, having a public option in which you dont have to worry about increasing premiums, being denied for preexisting conditions, or being denied because there is a loophole in the coverage; is a good thing. If anything the public option is a reworking and extending Medicaid. But remember this is an option not a mandate. And also remember that this will provide competition with the other insurance companies making them lower their premiums and give better deals to us the consumer, in essence saving us money.

Thank You

I usually only try to do one blog per week but today I am making an exception. This exception is a small shout out to the extraordinary men and women who day after day risk life and limb for this country. I say THANK YOU. My grandfather was a World War II veteran serving as an aviator with the Tuskegee Airmen. My father was a Korean War Veteran serving as an Air Traffic Controller before moving in to FAA as a Senior Executive Air Traffic Controller. I have many other friends in every branch of the Armed Services whom I pray for daily and I am very proud to call them my friends. So to everyone in the Military and our Veterans....HAPPY VETERANS DAY and THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE!

Journal of an Angry Black Man Vol. 1

There is a war within the African-American community. Some of you may have heard of it...but for those who do not know. Allow me to enlighten you...the war is Black Folk vs. Niggas. Yeah I said it! (But I am Black so you can't play the race card! Haha!) Now I first encountered this term years ago watching Chris Rock do a stand up special. I laughed then but fully did not understand the truth behind his humor. I do now. This "war" is not a physical battle. But a fight against ignorance.

What do I mean by this? An example is the notorious philosophy of, "Don't Snitch". Now this hood protocol was born back in the day when things were not as so racially pleasant as they are now (I know there is a bunch of laughing and comments at my last statement). This philosophy came about as a form of "No tattle-telling" but also served another purpose. Back in the days of Jim Crow Black people were oppressed and often terrorized by police. So when police came looking for someone the best method of self-preservation was "Don't Snitch". But now we live in better times. But this time, the "Don't Snitch" rule does not apply to protecting those who are being terrorized but rather those who are doing the terrorizing. This "Don't Snitch" policy, is at times what allows crime to continue unabated. Thats the problem. And Niggas want to say how "snitching" is the main problem in our community. Really? I didn't realize snitching, caused problems with drugs, gang violence, other crime. Yeah "snitching" really caused all these problems (sarcasm).

Black folk are about the positive, educating and uplifting the community, working together, strengthening the family unit. Black folks keep their neighborhoods clean and take pride in their community. Black folks care for their neighbors as family. I heard one man's opinion about snitching. "You can not snitch and be a bitch or take a stand and be a man" Black folks stand up and educate correct and eradicate the Nigga mentality from our brothers and sisters. Its time to win the war and move forward. OBAMA 2012!!

My First time...

So Writing your first blog is like the first time...or at least that's what I've been told. You will rush into it excited and eager. But you will make mistakes, have few typos, a spelling error or an incomplete thought...Anyways, since this is the first one I guess I'll put myself in the spotlight for 2.5 seconds....My life, great, blessed, and on my way to where I am destined to be which by now if you haven't figured out (due to the title of this blog) I am going to become a medical physician. (No applause necessary, not until I get in and do something worthwhile like cure the common cold or flu, cancer, HIV, the list just goes on)....But I digress, outside of the realm of science, I do enjoy reading and writing and prefer it over TV. Though I do enjoy the occasional session of ESPN and Discovery Channel. But the more I have seen of this wonderful invention called the television the more it truly disgust me. Not that all TV is bad, but it seems like on the fast track to oblivion. Why would I say such things? Well since you are reading my blog I figure you want to know so here...The worst thing about TV lies in two simple words "REALITY TELEVISION" it is the WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN! Now in science we cannot just simply state an opinion, we must back it up with facts. So here are a couple of factoids for your delight.

Number 1: Jon and Kate plus 8. I understand that America fell in love with this family and them having 8 kids. But when a family is over-exposed and when these regular people become overnight celebs they cannot handle it. So the family implodes and we get to watch. So we get to see the divorce and the drama...when will it all end? Will protective services intervene and will we get to see the 8 kids hauled off to foster homes? ---Where did I learn all of this info? I watched CNN...which brings me to number 2...

Number 2: News channels reporting on anything but the news. Reality TV has moved into such mainstream that we have A) News media reports on it as if it were actually important B) People acting out (i.e. Balloon Boy) to get in the News to get onto Reality TV. I have lost respect for CNN, what was once a reputable news program, is now tarnishing its image by reporting on this foolishness.

Number 3: My girlfriend (who I love dearly) watches the Hills and City religiously on MTV. I personally think Heidi and Spencer (yes I have watched several episodes with her) are the dumbest people ever and are a complete representation of what the hell is wrong with Reality TV and MTV. MTV...what was once known as Music Television has forgotten what it was once known for. Is now 99% reality TV and 1% music. Hosting the VMAs, but when was the last time you turned on MTV and saw music videos playing?

Ok. I am over this ranting for now. On to the next one...
